Web 2.0 means simply to use the internet as a communication device, not just as an information device. Sometimes you talk to it, and sometimes it answers back; sometimes you are putting content onto the internet, and sometimes you are consuming other people's content.

Good examples of Web 2.0 include: Skype, Wikipedia, eBay, Amazon, You-Tube; and numerous discussion forums, blogs, reviews and social networking sites. Instead of using the internet to distribute information - like a TV, radio or a newspaper - these sites demonstrate how the internet can be used to communicate - like a telephone, a market place or conference meeting.

Sci-mate is a proposal to apply these tools within an industry that thrives on the exchange of information and ideas. Moreover, to develop the service in such a way as to allow users themselves to capture the benefits created from sharing ideas - through recognition and copyright.
