The Sci-Wiki provides next-generation Wiki software to collect and compile information about any topic of research from a molecule to a universe.  The Sci-Wiki, and the Protocol-Wiki, are both intended as pre-publishing environments where authorship is recognised and IP is protected through international copyright laws, supported through the site's Privacy Policy and software processes.  Essentially, the site allows researchers to clearly demonstrate the origin of any piece of intellectual property that is under contest.

Articles within the Sci-Wiki can be either ideas, definitions, general knowledge or research reports (see Article Context).  Ideas allow the exploration of topics without the necessity to support hypotheses.  Definitions provide what should be commonly understood terms within a specifi community, plus space for associated discussion and consensus building.  General knowledge Articles are the equivalent of reviews or book chapters; and research reports are the same as journal articles or what might be presented at conference.

By contributing scientific information to the Sci-Wiki, or simply editing an Article, researchers will be inadvertantly establishing contacts with researchers who share similar research interests and staying informed of trends in their chosen field of research.  Perhaps more importantly, scientists will be establishing an open and free resource of high quality technical knowledge that will act as a resouce to the R&D industry in the same way that Wikipedia supplies general knowledge to the broader community.

The purpose of sharing ideas- or sharing knowledge- is to release the potential of individual fields of research in the context of broader research and development.  Moreover, to engage industry with academic knowledge and the people behind it- strengthening the ties between these two arms of the R&D industry.

Invitations are now being sent to the most prominant research institutions in all countries looking for leaders in the fields of Immunology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology and Cancer to initiate Articles in these disciplines.  If that is you, to contribute you may click on one of these links (after registering), and either editing adding information via a link within these Articles.  Alternatively, you may browse through the Communities below (which may only be visible coming through the main menu buttons) to find an existing Article to start in.  Finally, you may use the "Create a new Article" feature in the left column to start an entirely new Article.

If there is something you think missing, talk about it in The-Forum, or formulate an Article in the Feedback-Wiki.  If you really like the idea, consider donations and sponsorship.
