If you are an academic researcher- this is your site. Anything you contribute remains yours, and members are encouraged to own and control everything from the site itself to policy development.

Sci-Mate was intended to provide public infrastructure funded through grants from academic institutions in Germany until our funding was turned down. Development and running costs have been met by the personal investment of time and finances by a small number of existing members. The current proposal is to develop the site as a collaborative project, free of corporate or institutional interests, adhering to principles of open and co-operative government by our member community. It will not be non-profit, but it will return benefits to those who invest their time in the site- particularly during development (see Founding members).

The project was developed initially in Germany, but is global and will move to wherever best facilitates its development.

After a software upgrade and relaunch in November 2009, we are now actively looking for new members once more, and are particularly interested in finding highly motivated researchers willing to volunteer time and effort to help develop content and site policies.

By supporting others, we gain the support of others- with this attitude, we hope to always provide basic research functions free for academic scientists. Please show your support for the project by applying for membership, and donating some basic knowledge, such as a definition or protocol.
