The sci-mate provides Web 2.0 software that is designed to help researchers compile knowledge and exchange resources in a way that shares the benefits of ongoing development with all contributors.

Who owns and controls sci-mate? And what commercial interests are involved? The sci-mate is a community project without institutional or commercial ties or obligations. It is intended to operate as an objective infrastructure owned and controlled by its member community.

Who is paying for its development and running costs? All development and running costs have been met through the donation of personal time and/or money by myself, Christopher Dyer, and small group of existing members (as private individuals). All members are invited (see founding members) to help site development or provide donation and sponsorships.

Does it work? Yes, a demo-version of the site was released earlier this year, and while this site was overwhelmed within a few months, a major upgrade in September 2009 was undertaken, and the site is ready for any number of visitors and can be quickly scaled if content increases.

How can I get involved? Simply join, contribute a mini-review of your work or list technology, tell your friends, and bring the site to the attention of post-grad. post-doc. associations and your organization's technology transfer office. Contact us if you need support, either through the site, or via email.

How hard is it to use these tools? Do I need training? Absolutely not. While these Web 2.0 tools often have suprisingly powerful software behind them, the user experience should be familiar and intuitive. Start with a clear idea of what you want to do, and follow the simple instructions. The site is designed to be usable without any training or assistance, and if it is not, please tell us how it can be improved. See, Getting Started.
